Another arrest made after KPL pacer reports fixing approach

The Central Crime Branch, investigating alleged match-fixing and betting scams during the recent Karnataka Premier League (KPL), on Wednesday arrested a drummer on charges of attempted match-fixing. Bhavesh Bafna, a resident of JP Nagar in Bengaluru and drummer who was contracted by Bijapur Bulls for performing during KPL matches, allegedly approached many pacers, forcing them to concede more runs by bowling loose deliveries.
One such Bengaluru bowler playing for Ballari Tuskers has filed a criminal complaint against Bafna and another person identified as Sanyam, accusing them of offering Rs two lakh and above for conceding runs. Joint commissioner of police (CCB) Sandeep Patil told TOI that they are looking for Sanyam, a bookie from Delhi. "We have taken Bafna into custody and are questioning him. The bowler told us that Bafna had asked him to concede more than 10 runs per over," Patil said. "Sanyam and Bafna approached me saying I should give more than 10 runs in an over. For this, they offered to make an advance payment of Rs two lakh and with a promise to shower me with gifts later," CCB sources quoted the complainant as saying.
Earlier on September 23, CCB had arrested Ali Asfak Thara, owner of Belagavi Panthers, on charges of betting on KPL matches. Presently, Thara is in police custody. "Thara spilled the beans, saying that Bafna would approach pacers and batsmen from different teams, requesting them to play poorly in different matches. Since Bafna was a drummer performing during KPL matches and had access to dressing rooms and players of all the teams, none suspected his visits to them during the matches," the sources said.
"Bhavesh Bafna is a childhood friend of mine. He had signed a pact with Bijapur Bulls as a drummer. In July, he met me at a cafe in JP Nagar and asked me to give away more than 10 runs in an over in certain matches of KPL for money. I flatly refused. After some time, Bafna took me to a hotel near Kempegowda International Airport and introduced one Sanyam to me. Sanyam told me that I can earn a lot of money if I can give away runs by bowling loose deliveries. Again, I refused," the player wrote.
